Green Baker Lodge is situated in the stunning Chilean Patagonia.
- At about 1500 kms as the condor flies, south of Santiago.
- Situated 290kms south of Coyhaique which is the main town in the area.
-Just 3kms south of Puerto Bertrand
-On the banks of the Baker River, outlet of the immense General Carrera Lake.
-Location: South: 47° 02’ 31.7 West: 072° 49’ 06.5
To get to the Lodge, a two and a half hour national flight; Santiago- Puerto Montt -Coyhaique must be taken (Balmaceda is the airport in Coyhaique).
From the airport there is a four and a half hour trip in a vehicle to the Lodge (100 kms of the way is asphalted and the rest is a rubble track in good condition). It is also possible to take a small plane (max. capacity five passengers) from Coyhaique to about 30kms north of the Lodge.
In Winter we recommend 4x4 vehicles.
From Balmaceda or Coyhaique, go south towards Cochrane, past the village of Cerro Castillo leaving Bahía Murta on your left, past Puerto Tranquillo, cross the Baker River bridge until the first junction. Leaving the village of Guadal on your left, take the right towards Puerto Bertrand-Cochrane.
The trail skirts around a number of beautiful and majestic rivers (Rivers Ibañez, Manso, Murta, Engaño among others). Lakes and lagoons of several colours (Lake General Carrera, Lake Verde, Lake Negro to name a few), snowcapped mountains like Mount Castillo, picturesque villages like Cerro Castillo and Puerto Tranquilo.
Once at the Lodge, you will enjoy the extraordinary scenery, similar in many ways to Alaska or extreme Northern Europe, the majestic and mighty River Baker with stunning blue glaciers in the background and surrounded by the evergreen Coigue trees.
